Food Selfie

What is it about people taking snapshots of the food that they are about to eat?  And they post the image in social media like Facebook and what have you (are there other ones?)  Somebody please explain this to me.

Note to self:  Salad credit goes to my wife Rose.  She likes to experiment.  At times, I am the food taster (or the Guinea Pig).
