Buddy De Franco - Close Enough for Love (restored jazz vinyl LP)

Buddy De Franco - Close Enough for Love (restored jazz vinyl LP)

"Not all those who wander are lost." - J. R. R. Tolkien From the vinyl album Mr Lucky released in 1982 on Pablo. Credits: Bass – George Duvivier Clarinet – Buddy De Franco Drums – Ronnie Bedford Guitar – Joe Cohn Layout, Design – Norman Granz, Sheldon Marks Photography By – Tom Copi Piano – Albert Dailey Producer – Joyce DeFranco Producer, Liner Notes – Buddy DeFranco Boniface Ferdinand Leonard "Buddy" DeFranco (February 17, 1923 – December 24, 2014). An Italian-American jazz clarinetist. In addition to his work as a bandleader, DeFranco led the Glenn Miller Orchestra under the name, "The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, Directed By Buddy DeFranco" for almost a decade in the 1960s and '70s. He began his professional career just as swing music and big bands—many of which were led by clarinetists like Artie Shaw, and Benny Goodman—were in decline. While most jazz clarinet players did not adapt to this change, DeFranco successfully continued to play clarinet exclusively, and was one of the few bebop clarinetists. He also performed with Gene Krupa, Art Blakey, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Charlie Barnet, Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Lennie Tristano, Dodo Marmarosa, Terry Gibbs, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Eddie Daniels, Putte Wickman, Billie Holiday and many others, and released dozens of albums as a leader. I do not own the copyright to the music, the recording and the photos. (Image post and video art were appropriated from the original album cover.) This video is posted for educational use under Section 17 U.S. Code § 107. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use. As much as possible, I attempted to remove most of the pops and crackles from the original vinyl album. Hope you enjoy. INXDS. #bebop #jazz #vinylrecord

Sage and Basil as Art

You can probably tell that I am scrapping the bottom of the barrel here.  I'm running dry and this is all what I can find from my finished works.  In fact, this image is not even finished.

Our herb garden is doing decently well.  Obviously great for spicing up food. The early Europeans have to travel through the seven seas, fight dragons, make sacrifices such as not being able to take bath and shampoo their hair - just to find spice to preserve their food and to make as perfume.  Well, I just made that up.

The one on the left is sage.  Rose hasn't figure out what to do with it.  The other two are basil plants.  They are probably the most used in Rose's kitchen.  The cool thing about basil is that they like to be pruned.  So the more I cut them the larger it grows.  You just need to know which ones to cut.

Hope your day is going well.

Charlie Parker - Bird of Paradise (1947 recording)

Charlie Parker - Bird of Paradise (1947 recording)

"Everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the mouth." - Mike Tyson “Bird of Paradise”, is based on the chord changes to “All The Things You Are” (by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II), a popular song from the ‘40s with an unusually complex harmonic progression that quickly became one of the most well-known standards in jazz history. [ excerpt https://medium.com/@gemsofjazzblog/today-in-jazz-history-october-28th-aeb5afb06583 ] Alto Saxophone – Charlie Parker Bass – Tommy Potter Drums – Max Roach Piano – Duke Jordan Trumpet – Miles Davis Recorded October 28, 1947 Charles Parker Jr. (August 29, 1920 – March 12, 1955), nicknamed "Bird" and "Yardbird", was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Parker was a highly influential soloist and leading figure in the development of bebop, a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuosic technique, and advanced harmonies. Parker was a blazingly fast virtuoso and introduced revolutionary harmonic ideas into jazz, including rapid passing chords, new variants of altered chords, and chord substitutions. Parker acquired the nickname "Yardbird" early in his career on the road with Jay McShann. This, and the shortened form "Bird", continued to be used for the rest of his life, inspiring the titles of a number of Parker compositions, such as "Yardbird Suite", "Ornithology", "Bird Gets the Worm", and "Bird of Paradise". Parker was an icon for the hipster subculture and later the Beat Generation, personifying the jazz musician as an uncompromising artist and intellectual rather than just an entertainer. I do not own the copyright to the music, the recording and the photos. (Image post and video art were appropriated from the original album The Very Best of Bird.) Not to be Forsaken

This is what happened to the wildflowers that Rose picked up one morning.  They were still fresh and made for great decoration.  The next day I turned them into art.

Hope your day is going well.

All Flesh are Like Grass

I really wished I have taken this image - but I didn't.  Rose picked up some wildflowers on our backyard this morning.  Tomorrow, these flowers will wither.  That is the way it goes.  Flowers bloom, the wind blows, and at the end of the day the flowers die.  This is true for all flesh.  We are like the wildflowers.  Even so, we are probably more like wild grass.  The timeline is just longer.  In the end, we all are but dust.

Captured with her iPhone 8. Or was it iPhone 10?  Can't remember.

Hope your day is going well.

Brew Moore - Gold Rush (restored original 1949 recording jazz vinyl )

Brew Moore - Gold Rush (restored original 1949 recording jazz vinyl )

"If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are." - Alice Cooper From the vinyl album Brothers and Other Mothers Milton Aubrey "Brew" Moore (March 26, 1924 – August 19, 1973), was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. Moore told critic Ralph Gleason in 1954, "The idea of playing for me is to compose a different, not always better I'm afraid, melody on the tune and basis of the original song, rather than construct a series of chord progressions around the original chords." An idea the more pre-bop inclined Gleason clearly approved of, noting that Moore "has two absolutely golden gifts. He swings like mad and he has soul . . . he also has a priceless gift for phrasing. . . . When Brew says it, he says it simply, but it rings true." I do not own the copyright to the music, the recording and the photos. (Image post and video art were appropriated from the original album.) Heavenly Rapini

Our vegetable garden was totally decimated with the last snowstorm.  Including the Rapini, which is supposed to be frost tolerant.  Perhaps, but I suppose it was not snow tolerant.

I start germinating the seedlings indoor around March.  Now we are at the end of April, and the marvelous vegetable plant have started to bloom outside.

Native to Europe, Rapini is a member of the tribe Brassiceae of the Brassicaceae (mustard family). It is classified scientifically as Brassica rapa var. Ruvo It is also known as broccoletti, broccoli raab, broccoli rabe, spring raab, and ruvo kale.

Rapini is a green cruciferous vegetable, with the leaves, buds, and stems all being edible - at times describe as tasting nutty, bitter, and pungent, as well as almond-flavored.  The buds somewhat resemble broccoli, but do not form a large head. The small yellow flowers are also edible.  They are as what I would call heavenly.

Hope your day is going well.
