Tower of Song

So I bid you farewell, I don't know when I'll be back.
They’re moving us tomorrow to that tower down the track.
But you'll be hearing from me, baby, long after I'm gone.
I'll be speaking to you sweetly from my window in the tower of song
(Leonard Cohen).

Not sure if I shot this at the Rock.  Maybe.  Because I remember that it was raining when I saw this... and indicating to my daughter, "wouldn't this would make a nice haunted house?"  I'm not even sure what is in it.  I was getting soaked, and my camera was getting wet, and all I wanted was to get out there.

thensAHH... now I get it, Rob you mean the Rocks, the first settlement of Sydney. Here in OZ when people refer to the Rock , they are referring to Eyres Rock ,the huge red rock in the center of OZ, hence my joke about the spine of the states The Rockies.Rob I have stumbled over something in the last couple of days you may find interesting. Just have a peek,no need to let anyone know you've been.;-) I grew up near Winchester House and I find you shot creepyer the WH. Well done.tony

Hey Rob it's the middle of the night . I've had an infected molar pulled & I am waiting for the next round of pain killers to kick in so I can get back to sleep. Any way. You need a processed unexposed piece of E6 tranny film.ie. the black bits.120 or should I say 2 & a quarter film is probably best. Then you make a filter of it,ie cut it round & put it in front of the lens. What this does is restricts visible light but still allows IR light to pass. The interesting thing is the focus mechanism inside the digital cameras seems to focus IR light, that was todays discovery, as you know IR light focuses on a different plane, but the focus sensor seems to see it. You cant see a damn thing through the viewfinder but the focus light on the Nikon lights up when focus is achieved. Now the only thing is, let's hope the crappy AA filter on your crappy Rebel is crappy enough to allow IR light to pass to the crappy sensor. If it is something like a 30d or that era it should be o.k.(better).
Exposure is a little tricky. On the fuji S2 with 3G ,f2 was about an 8th of a second in full sunlight. On the D1x about a quarter of a second. The Ex time will vary according to the efficiency of the IR blocking of the AA filter.I am happy, I was about to spend about $80 on a IR filter just to have a play not knowing how well my camera would capture IR. It's one heck of a lot easier than shooting IR used to be with IR film. Hope this is clearer, pains gone for now , will get a couple of more hours sleep before my sons soccer. Rhys, the one with the thumb & the phone has been picked out for a special squad to be trained up as potential 2022 socceroos, thats my boy!!! Keep well, speak soon .tony

Hi Rob, 1965 when I was 10.I'm originally English, grew up in Canada & San Jose & England then Oz. Melbourne is probably the most European of Oz's capital cities, but the weather. Bris Vegas is probably the cultural void, but amazingly quite a few of Oz's most famous bands have hailed from here. Starting with the Bee Gees ,Saints, Go Betweens , Powderfinger, finishing with the Veronicas. Who's father- manager lives next door. Sons team won in the dying seconds. Thru to the finals, just. tony

Ugh! That’s too eerie. Or did you just make it look like that? It sure looks like from a horror movie.

Well, I’m back to the real world. I like it in Michigan. One of these days will go up there. There is certainly a lot of photos you could make there.

Take care, my dear brod.
